Mark, you’ve made a good case for why gas is a bad choice. For many of us, gas here — installed and operating. Are you going to discuss the cost of replacement and cost of electric replacements? Back in “ye olden days,” gas (and oil) was much more cost-effective than electric systems.

To Steve: If you do not qualify for the programs I'll go over, I'd recommend reaching out to organizations like Think Little or Local Energy Alliance Program who can help you determine those costs to see what makes the most sense for your home

Hello Chase, thank you for all the information! I would like to know what type of measurement and verification process you have in place? is it possible for you to do billing analysis versus deemed values?

Hello. Is this meeting being recorded? I was late joining and I think the guy before Chase was suggesting to switch to gas appliances to electric before replacements become more expensive?

@laura: depending on the program, we conduct a comprehensive energy audit of the home and input data into a DOE-approved energy modeling software to determine whether measures are cost-effective. Unfortunately, collecting utility bills for a full analysis isn't always possible with our clients.

Chase, Could you provide a blurb that I can post to Nextdoor? I live in an area of Richmond where many LMI folks live. I'll email Amory tomorrow to obtain. Also, you could provide to Mary-Stuart to send out w/ webinar link. Thanks!

If one wants to go electric on a furnace or water heater, what are some ballpark figures on price compared to just replacing with a gas appliance?
Alistair Watson
01:18:02
First thanks to Mary-Stuart and Hunter for this informative webinar. My question is for Chase: “Is this a good way to describe what CHP Energy Solutions does is a 501c3 which offers electrical transition information for low income families. They also do weatherization which insulates homes and keeps from heat and A/C from leaving and energy wasted. They do the latter free of charge!
Mark Kresowik
01:18:12
If you don't need electrical or other building upgrades, your costs shouldn't be that much different. And you'll save money if you're replacing both a heating and AC system.

What is the most efficient level of coordination? In the study case Rose was describing, it seemed that the NY city was coordinating these efforts. Is there a role for local governments to play in order to make federal and utility’s initiatives more effective?

I have an all electric very energy efficient house and an electric car (there are 45 homes in my solar community in Fulton (Richmond)). With solar panels (6.8kW) my electric bill runs $7.98/month during this time of year. I'm providing more electricity to Dominion Energy than they're providing me. The future is electric.

Folks can get a battery backup system whether or not they have solar. Sooner or later EVs (electric vehicles) will be able to power our homes during power outages. Ford F-150 Lightning video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxe352yOYyk
